Online Pharmacies
The easy availability of the internet and our increasingly busy lives makes the purchase of our pets' medications online tempting and convenient. Trying to stretch every dollar as far as it will go leads us to believe that medications are significantly cheaper when bought online.
In fact, Old Farm Veterinary Hospital prices medications competitively and very often is less expensive and more convenient than most online pharmacies for the most common medications.
The United States Food and Drug Administration and the American Veterinary Medical Association caution pet owners about buying medications online or across federal borders. Before considering buying your pet's medications online, please read the following information:
FDA: Purchasing Pet Drugs Online: Buyer Beware
FDA: On-Line Internet Sales of Animal Drugs: Good or Bad?
AVMA: What animal owners should know about Internet pharmacies
If you still wish to purchase medications online, Old Farm Veterinary Hospital will gladly provide you with a prescription, or sign a prescription from a pharmacy, internet or otherwise, that is faxed to us. However, we cannot take responsibility for the accuracy and quality of any prescriptions filled at other pharmacies. Additionally, all prescriptions require a legal Doctor/Client/Patient relationship, which is traditionally defined as an examination within the past year, plus relevant testing, for most preventative products. Other medications may require more recent examination for the specific condition the medication is intended to treat. Old Farm cannot legally sign prescriptions without such a relationship.
We work hard to keep high quality pharmacy products affordable, available and convenient. In the future we plan to partner with a reliable, respected pharmacy in order to make medications available online in a way that is convenient, affordable and safe. In the meantime, please be cautious where you purchase medications and consider that what might be advertised as a bargain, may really not be.
